Yuanjiang, Yunnan, SW China Yuangjiang Main Street Wedding Couple We were stopping here over night to make connections with the bus trip to Jinghong, the Xishshuangbanna prefecture capital. The new roadway shortened our trip considerably. But one area had already been blocked by a sand slide and the required detour seemed impossible to travel. Dear Mr. Pong was masterful as were the other huge trucks, busses, and vans. Finally we arrived at the Red River bed and the turn off for Yuanjiang. We passed Honghe, the prefecture seat. Already the temperature was warmer. How lovely. We did enjoy these happy wedding moments in front of a main street restaurant. The town is Han dominated with new un-imaginative Chinese architecture. There is almost no ethnic presence here. Mr. Pong helped us find the bus station, Bank of China (ATM didn't work here), and hotel. Sad to say good-bye to Mr. Pong. We will miss him... Tomorrow we'll be ready for a 6 hour bus ride to Jinghong.

We were stopping here over night to make connections with the bus trip to Jinghong, the Xishshuangbanna prefecture capital.

Today, Monday, we saw three wedding parties at the restaurants in the middle of town.  What is it about Mondays and weddings....Lots of people, black Santana cars, white wedding dresses, and excitement.  May the horoscope indicated a favorable day to wed!

The new roadway  shortened our trip considerably.  There are new roadways all over China.  Still, the trip was extremely difficult in one area that had  been blocked by a sand slide and the required detour seemed impossible to travel.  Dear Mr. Peng was masterful as were the other huge trucks, busses, and vans.
