Woven View of Strokestown Countryside |
Leaving Dublin, we traveled to the village of
Strokestown, Roscommon to visualize the world that my ancestors lived until during the 19th century potato famine It seems that the village had been
developed to support the large Manor, now called Park House. Today the
lands are fertile and rich green in color. It is hard to imagine what the
lands appeared during the harsh years of the potato famine - 1840-1850's.

Invitation to Return |
My great grandfather stayed in Strokestown to care for his mother
until she died in 1858, then traveled with his wife and several of his children
to Connecticut. He eventually moved to Missouri to be with a son living
there until he reached the ripe age of 105.
